The red grape varieties at KALIAN

The three red grape varieties of KALIAN’s vineyards are:

Merlot Noir

Merlot Noir, commonly called Merlot, represents 75% of red production.

At KALIAN, Merlot is the main red grape variety. It allows us to obtain round, powerful wines, rich

in color and relatively low in acidity.

These full-bodied and structured wines, with tannins that are nevertheless quite supple, are often aged in oak. The aromas are complex and elegant.

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc represents nearly 16% of red production.

With less color than Merlot, Cabernet Franc brings elegance, aromatic complexity, finesse and freshness on the finish.

It develops fresh aromas of red fruits as well as delicate floral notes, particularly violet.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Finally, Cabernet Sauvignon represents 9% of red production at KALIAN.

Cabernet Sauvignon, more capricious, brings color and rich tannins which can be of exceptional

elegance during great vintages. Clusters and berries are small.

Cabernet Sauvignon allows us to obtain wines with a very interesting tannic structure and deep color when berries are ripe. They are generally suitable for aging and maturing in oak.
